So apparently without Jay 2PM has turned into a group of (very tall, attractive, badly dressed male) cheerleaders? They're sporting pony tails and making pyramids.

Good job, JYP, good job.

I really hate how people are apparently allergic to seeing the gray area in the China debate. Seriously, it's okay to admit that their economic rise is pretty amazing but that it came at a price. And while some people are very happy, others are not. It's okay. It doesn't make one ethnocentric. It's taking the world for what it is- complicated. 复杂 if you will. Lighting the Empire State Building is interesting. The US hates China's human rights track record, but they're strong trading partners (and the US owes China a lot of money) so of course they're going to do something for China's 60th. And money always comes before human rights. Always. Look at every post- 1945 genocide. If the US (and not just the US) has an interest in not doing anything, so be it.

China is great. The progress it's made since opening up is staggering, but to only look at a country economy-wise is wrong, very very wrong.

I can't even think clearly anymore but this seems better than writing a scathing response at aiyatheydidn't.

Jeanine is in the finale! I'm shocked. I mean, granted, they should have just ended the show last week after voting off the clear winner (JANETTE), but.. yay for consolations?

Pretty pretty pretty

Alright, so I'm not sure how well this is known nationally, but, being from North Dakota, this is a huge story in my area. Journalist Roxana Saberi, who has worked with news organizations such as the BBC and NPR, was arrested in Tehran, Iran over a month ago. The North Dakota delegation (Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad, and Representative Earl Pomeroy- yes, North Dakota's Congressional delegation consists of three members) has been in contact with the State Department in an attempt to get Ms. Saberi released. As the United States has no relations with Iran (meaning no embassies), the State Department is using the Swedish Embassy in Tehran to negotiate her release.

As horrible as this situation is, and it truly is, this is not my main problem. My problem is this: In every news clip I've watched (part of my job is to watch every area newscast every day) mentions the fact that Ms. Saberi is a former Miss North Dakota. In fact, a story on one of the stations was dedicated to that fact. It showed the piano piece she performed for the talent portion of the show. It focused on her pretty dress and well-defined arms. It showed the moment she was crowned Miss North Dakota. It even showed an interview she gave as Miss North Dakota, shiny shiny crown and all.

Yes, Roxana Saberi is gorgeous. Anybody with eyes can see that. But there are some other, more important, areas they could be focusing on a little more. She graduated from Fargo North High School and from Concordia College, both in the area. She actually worked for one of the local news stations before going independent. This isn't to say that this is never mentioned; it is pointed out, especially by KVLY (the station she worked for previously). However, the point always seems to go back to "Wow, isn't she pretty?"

Yes, she's pretty.

Can we get back to the fact that she's been jailed and her parents haven't heard from her since February 10th?

Can we discuss how she's working on her third (third!!) Master's degree and she's only 31?

Are you willing to talk about what kind of stories she filed?

Why yes, that is a very nice Senior picture you're showing, but wouldn't it be better if I focus on what her father saying? I think he said something about hiring her an Iranian lawyer, but I was so entranced by her dark, dark eyes...

Wait, her father's written books on Iran before? Has anybody asked what the Iranian government thought of them?

So Roxana is writing a book on Iran herself? Any idea what the subject is?

Yes, that's a beautiful piano you're panning on. She did probably practice on it when she was going for Miss America.

The irony is that the journalists writing articles and presenting on the news are either doing really crappy research or they just don't care. Rather than focusing on this young woman's intelligence or Iran's record of jailing journalists on trumped up charges (she told her parents she had been arrested for buying a bottle of wine- which is illegal in Iran and a move she likely wouldn't have made-- Iran has now changed her charge to reporting after having her press pass revoked in 2006), we have to be reminded of how great she looks, even in a headscarf.

I can't help but wonder an ungly humanitarian worker from the area would receive the same treatment.

Remioromen STILL rocks your face

This is one of my favorite lives ever, especially a bit after the 6:00 mark when Ryota and Keisuke really go at it during the guitar solo. F'ing chills, man. Chills.

I really need a remioromen avatar.

I would totally listen to Usher if he sounded like Khalil Fong.

Hell, he even does Boys II Men better than they do.

But the best part is that he's karaoke'd himself.

My copy of the American Nuremberg trials (vol. 1) ripped the back cover off of my Chinese dictionary. I don't know what that means, but it can't possibly be good.

4 more days until spring break!!!!
